Whether your piano is an old heirloom you’ve inherited, or a newer piece of your household’s furniture, placing the instrument in your home can be an art all to itself. So what is so tricky about finding the right place for a piano? Read on to learn tips on placing your piano in the most appropriate place within the walls of your home-a place that will maximize the life and beauty of your grand furnishing.

First of all, take practicality into consideration when locating the right spot in your home for a piano. Finding the most practical place for a piano mainly entails the use of common sense. The most practical piano location will be the place where a piano fits the best (and is still easily accessible for those who play).

However, even though practicality is the first thing to consider, it’s far from the most important factor. Because pianos are delicate instruments, they will require more than just a practical placement. So, after measuring your piano and sizing up corners and nooks in your home, please consider the subsequent placement factors.

Let’s first explore ventilation. Proper ventilation is required by pianos in order for them to look good and function well. Choose a room in your home that has well circulated air. But steer clear of vents that might blow hot or cold air directly onto the piano, giving you the wrong kind of ventilation.

Finding proper ventilation for your piano may also entail a complete assessment of your home’s overall ventilation. Having vents checked and cleaned professionally can improve the circulation in your home. Stagnant (too humid, or too dry) air, or unfiltered air can wear on your piano as well.

Moreover, the temperature of your home will greatly affect your piano’s functionality. If the temperature within your home goes from one extreme to another (extremely cold in the winter, and extremely warm in the summer) plan on your instrument going out of tune easily. The goal is to keep your home’s temperatures relatively constant throughout the year; otherwise you will be paying for tune ups several times a year.

Finding proper ventilation for your piano may also entail a complete assessment of your home’s overall ventilation. Having vents checked and cleaned professionally can improve the circulation in your home. Stagnant (too humid or too dry) air or unfiltered air can wear on your piano as well.

In addition, piano movers can take the stress out of finding the right location for a piano. Professionals, like Utah piano movers can assess your home for a place that will make the most of your piano. If you live in the Salt Lake area, for example, doing an internet search for Utah piano movers will guide you to professionals that take the guessing game out of piano placement.

Two Man Movers is a Utah Moving Company that specializes in Piano mover, residential and commercial mover. With 10 years of experience, these Salt Lake City movers will make your move easy and safe.

Making use of This administration’s Making Home Affordable Plans green tax breaks is a wonderful way to save money this year and it helps the environment.

Today the average house owner seeks out ways to build his or her house more energy efficient hoping to save money in the end. The installation of solar-powered panels is 1 way to decrease utility costs and add to the resale value of your home. Even so with every benefit there is also a drawback and 1 question you have to ask your self is: Will adding solar-powered products be worth it given that installation can prove expensive? Basically, when installed you could see a cost-savings, will the original price warrant the savings down the road? The next article will help to answer the previous question.

You might not be aware but historically solar power technology just isn’t new. It became a reality in the fifties. Even so it has not been economically feasible until the twenty-first century. Also photo voltaic energy might be sensible for one household and not so much for another. The variance is due to the common consumption requirements with regard to utilities in 1 household to the next as it relates to each and every home’s utility expense.

It might be stated that the major expenditure of a solar-powered system comes into play whenever the necessary products are purchased. To be able to determine the expenses in greater detail the following items are necessary to make your homestead photo voltaic effective:

1.	The main component is going to be the (pv) module. 2.	The inverter will be important to be able to adjust primary current into alternating current. (The direct current is created by the photo voltaic panel.) The alternating current runs the devices within your house. 3.	You will certainly need to install meters if you wish to establish the amount of electricity that you use for possible resale to the power company. 4.	Wiring, cables and perhaps a location to keep batteries (if included) will be needed. 5. Additionally you’ll must add the labor expense in order to put in your home-based solar system.

A photovoltaic or pv setup will also require expenditures related with its upkeep. The following charges indicate the associated costs of keeping a solar system functional.

1.	The solar panels will need to be washed on a daily basis; and, 2.	The inverter and batteries-if used will certainly need to be changed after a certain number of decades.

Remember to look for those tax credits through the Making Home Affordable Program. When Obama put together the Making Homes Affordable gov Program and its amazing tax credits for being environmentally consciousness he really hit a home run.

The two best options for building your own wooden shed are to build it from a wooden shed kit or build from scratch. Of course, a third option is to hire a pro, but this article is written for the average handyman with a few carpentry skills. Its entirely up to you to choose which option to take as both have their pros and cons. We’ll take a look at building wooden sheds.

Assuming you have not only the skills, but also the tools and time, building a wooden shed from scratch is likely the option you would prefer. Executing the project as well as the planning are what take the time for your project. And, a crucial first step is obtaining a good set of shed plans. Be careful of your selection of online wooden shed plans. A good set of plans will include plenty of photos or illustrations, clear and easy-to-follow instructions, and a complete materials list. This list is important as it helps you determine all the materials you need for the project when you to go purchase them at the supply store.

If you have the right set of plans, basic skills, and the necessary tools on hand, it should only take you a couple of days to complete your shed. If you are planning on building your wooden shed on a concrete slab instead of a wood frame, or “skid”, make sure to allow for the extra labor and time. For this part of the project, it might be best to hire a pro.

Not confident in your carpentry skills? Then a wooden shed kit has a lot of advantages over building from scratch. For most shed kits, all the pieces are already cut so the only thing you have to do is the assembly. Some kits even come with the walls already framed so assembly is easy and quick. So really, waiting for the kit to arrive is likely to be the most time you will spend on this project.

You can save a little money building a wooden shed kit since you may not need to buy or rent all the tools you’d need to build from scratch.

So, either option has its merits and its downsides. But either way, once you have your shed up, you will soon recognize its many benefits.

Depending on whether you grow determinate, semi-determinate or indeterminate tomatoes, will determine whether you need to stake your tomatoes or not. Determinate plants do not typically need staking where both semi and determinate plants will sprawl and grow large volumes of tomatoes which will require staking the vines to keep them from breaking, during the growing season.

So in order to keep those precious tomatoes up off the ground, we need to stake them up and train them to grow where we want them to. There are many reasons for staking and of those, first and foremost, is that it keeps your tomatoes in a smaller space rather than sprawling all over the ground. Another very important reason is that while keeping your tomatoes up off the ground, this keeps them cleaner and ground critters (wood lice, pill bugs, as well as rodents) are less apt to nibble on them. It also prevents your tomato plants from retaining water beneath them and rotting the fruit before ripening. The other very important reason for staking is that when your tomatoes grow, they become heavy. Higher tomatoes can break branches from the plant. So if they are resting on or tied up to another support rather than your plant itself, you don’t run the risk of losing those prized tomatoes.

We have used a number of different methods of staking tomatoes and we’ll share them with you.

If you have decided to use tomato cages, you will need to stabilize them as the indeterminate plants grow in size. The easiest method to do this is to weave wood stakes, rebar or cut conduit through the rungs of the cage, down into the soil. This will keep the cage from tipping over as the plant gets large on the top.

Weave or coax/train your tomato plants through the wire rings of the tomato cages, as they grow. This may need to be done on a daily basis as the temperatures warm out of doors.

Metal Poles or Wood

This is another method of staking that I use, usually when the tomato is too large to place a tomato cage over. Okay, so I’m admitting that my staking is sometimes neglected, but for a very good reason….I like doing other things besides staking. Anyway, I pick up slat material from the hardware store, in 4 foot lengths. It’s usually about $25 for 100 pieces. So it’s pretty reasonable in price. You can also use bamboo poles, which are strong and pretty reasonable in price, depending on where you purchase them and how many you are buying. The slat material can be purchased in single pieces for around $.45 each at the larger home improvement centers.

With the slat material method, you will need to tie or clip the stakes to the stakes and/or cage. I would recommend cut or torn strips of cotton fabric (sheet, t-shirt) tied around the stake and carefully draped around the tomato stalk.

To avoid damage to the branches, I like to use strips of either cotton sheets, torn into 1 inch strips. You can also use 1 inch strips of torn cotton T-Shirt material. Either choice works well and depending on what I have around the house factors in which I use.

When tying the branches to the stake, always make sure the branch is only wrapped with the cotton strip, loosely and not a complete wrap. Then take the ends and wrap each end around the stake and tie on the opposing side of the tomato branch.

Ranch Fencing or Concrete Reinforcing Wire Tomato Cages

You can also use Ranch Fencing or concrete reinforcing wire, to build your own tomato cages. Just remember to find fencing that has large enough holes to get your tomatoes through. It comes in heights of 48 inches as well as taller and to use it, simply cut a piece about 37 – 40 inches long. This will make about a 12 inch circle to fit over your plant. Twist the cut ends together and create a circle. Place around your tomato plants. You’ll probably need some reinforcing sticks or bars to keep them upright, but they do work quite well and help to keep larger critters from munching on your precious tomatoes.

Wood Ladder Style Frames

Wood ladder folding style Tomato frames are unique. They actually form an A frame over the top of the tomato. They can be folded up at the end of the season and stored in a very small area. Mother Earth News has a nice how to on building them.

When you’re in the market for electrical contractors, you need to know what to look for, of course – but what about what you should AVOID? Many magazine and newspaper articles written on the subject tend to stay within the basic topic, and provide the reader things like where to find a list of contracting companies in their area, or how to know what to ask a business about their credentials – but, they never get around to much else beyond that. So, if you’d like a change of pace in regards to subject material, read on for more information:

Stay away from those contractors who think that performing electrical work means the problem can be solved by using electrical TAPE. OK, so this is a bit of an exaggeration, but what it really means is, stay away from those one-man operations in which the “contractor” isn’t an actual contractor – but is actually a friend of a friend, or someone’s uncle. There are a lot of well-meaning people who just want to stay busy, and have talked themselves into believing they can tackle something as delicate as electrical repair – when in reality, their arsenals consist of tools they still haven’t quite figured out how to use, and little or no knowledge of their subject matter. Having someone like this work on your wiring may turn out just fine if you’re both characters in a make believe story, but it doesn’t go down like that in real life.

Avoid those electrical contractors who except you to take a verbal estimate on a “lick and a promise” or a handshake – but yet refuse to put what they’ve promised you, into writing. Besides the fact that it’s always important to have a written and signed estimate for any repair work you have done, remember also – as far as verbal agreements go, Contractor “Phil” can give you one estimate price, and then his co-worker, Contractor “Bob” can hit you with another – and, moreover in this situation, both can also deny ever giving you any estimate at all, if they so choose.

For instance, your contractor may verbally give you an unheard of estimate price on the work you need done, and promise you “no last minute changes”. Yet, as the work is done and nearing completion, you find that suddenly what you owe, has gone up several thousand dollars – and with no forewarning at all.

Lastly, if you have to fight them in court – and you have nothing to prove your side of the story – you could walk away very upset when the judge rules in favor of the contractor, who is, of course, in possession of a “written” agreement, while you have only what you’ve SAID happened to defend you.

Avoid those businesses where the contractor is known to drink on the job – and is also prone to taking 15 minute breaks every half hour. By refusing to hire a person with sloppy work habits, you will avoid facing an increase in billable hours caused by all those breaks in productivity, and you won’t have the worry about possibly being named in some expensive lawsuit filed against you, by a worker who was under the influence when he hurt himself at your home. And especially important – you will not have the concern that the work may have been done incorrectly – and will someday come back to haunt you, in the form of a dangerous electrical explosion.

So, when you are in the market for electrical contractors, remember that while many of them are great – some of them have undesirable character traits when it comes to their overall business practice. You do not want to go down in history as an electrical job-gone-wrong legend, just because something you could have avoided, happened while you looked away.

Efficient and dedicated electrical contractors can sometimes be difficult to come across, but if you live in the Northamptonshire area, then click on electrical contractors Northamptonshire to be taken to ulec.co.uk. Ulec provide top electrician services and are based in Northamptonshire. electrical contractors Northamptonshire

A gasifyer is used to heat wood or other organic matter to a temperature great enough to liberate the volatile elements inside. Once released the gasses can either be burnt for heat or combusted in an engine to make energy. The gasifier is essentially a container that is insulated to hold in the heat.

within this container is a small-scale bed of burning fuel. The bed of fuel is forced to burn under controlled conditions, by restricting the amount of air, and starts the gas production.

This makes the whole process self contained.

This pocket-sized controlled fire is precisely what is needed to allow the gasses to be released evenly. This heat is used to dry out and warm the fuel stock, so that when it falls into the fire grating, it will readily burn. Temperatures of the order of 1200 degrees F should be aimed for. The red-hot unburned gasses are allowed to escape from the head of the container. They then need to be cooled and filtered, in part to clean the gas, particularly if it is to be used in an engine, and cooled to create a denser mixture which is more thermally efficient.

A small power station, moveable and self contained, is one of the decided advantages of the gasifier. A four cylinder engine needs an oil barrel sized gas producer, but if the fuel is a waste product, the gas is just as good.

Any combination of chipped wood and or branches, rice or maize husks, shells, pits, animal dung, in fact any waste organic material, might be used. Even fast growing willow may be planted as a fuel harvest.

The amount of money spent by commercial agribusiness disposing of it’s waste, and landfill usage, could be saved by using this as a fuel. A further eco-friendly benefit is that the residue or char from the gasifier might be used as a soil conditioner, meaning still less waste.

A large industrial gasifier might have to be used in an district heating undertaking or in a large farm yard waste energy producer in order to acquire economies of scale.

But, I am more concerned with smaller gasifyers to subsidise house hold costs, or off grid living.

The end result with household gasification is a clean burning fuel with little pollution. An added benefit.

1 gallon of petrol is said by many to be equal to 20lbs of dry chipped wood. A reasonably sized gasifier may be made to provide all the gas for a particular engine, the larger the gasifier the bigger the engine. A gasifyer does not necessarily require any external power although this will help to start the machine, someone will nonetheless have to fuel the machine. With an internal combustion engine the induction will draw air through the hearth creating a self sustaining cycle.

As a eco-friendly alternate energy source a gasifyer and gasoline generator offers a serious solution.

This Technology is over Two Centuries old, but is just as relevant now when the world needs an appropriate new fuel source. Find out now how heat and electricity can be made with the latest generation of gasifiers. You can buy all sorts of practical products, no matter if you’re working on a small flower or vegetable garden or if you have bigger commercial interests.

Millions of households renovate their kitchen every year, although kitchen renovation is a very vague term. It can mean anything from renovating your cooker with new parts to totally stripping your kitchen out and beginning anew. If you decide to simply change a couple of of the older items in your kitchen, then that is quite uncomplicated and you might not require a lot of assistance.

However, if you are planning to renovate the whole kitchen then you might need some assistance in the way of ideas and recommendations. There are various places you can turn to in order to uncover new ideas.

You could hire an interior designer, an architect or a builder in order to give you ideas or make suggestions. These professionals can also produce drawings or plans so that you know precisely what you are going to get.

However, if you want to do the planning yourself, you can do that as well. If you want to go down that road, you need to keep your eyes open for ideas all the time. Every time you visit a friend, watch a film or read a periodical, you should be collecting ideas. You could put all these concepts into a folder or write them into a book.

Or, instead of making your own folder or book, you could buy a kitchen renovation book or two. These kitchen renovation or remodelling books are normally referred to as ‘How To…” guides. Whatever they are called the question is whether they are value for money or not.

A decent kitchen renovation book should propose a few designs within a variety of different styles. This will allow you to select a style or a theme and then narrow it down to a specific design that you like. Clearly, you do not have to stick rigidly to the designs in the book.

There are different types of kitchen renovation books. A few of these kitchen renovation books adopt a broad spectrum approach. They show you the main tendencies in kitchen design such as European, American or Far Eastern. Then they narrow it down to European rustic, American south-western or Far Eastern Chinese or whatever. Other types of kitchen renovation books will focus on one particular style.

Therefore if you are not certain which style of kitchen renovation you want, you should first get a broad spectrum book and decide from there which style you like best. This is a significant step forward, because then you can get a book that concentrates on designs of that specific style.

You can learn a great deal by approaching kitchen renovation in this manner. You will be enabled to hone the style of kitchen that you fancy, so that either you can tell a contractor how to make the kitchen of your dreams for you with the help of your books or you can charge an architect or interior designer to make a drawing that you can use as a part of your contract with a builder.

There are many ways to skin a cat, so the saying goes and it is true of interior design too. If you use kitchen renovation books shrewdly, they can save you a lot of professional consultancy fees and you will end up with the kitchen of your dreams.

Orchids, like many other types of house plants, have very specific needs including light, water and nutrition. One of the most important elements towards the health of your orchid plant is the kind of light it receives. The quantity of light the orchid plant needs can differ because of the species that your orchid is. But, since orchids naturally are simply within the tropical regions of the globe, they generally need a good deal of diffused light.

Tropical areas they come from ordinarily have distinct patterns of sun and shade. So that you can provide them with the cooler morning light and prevent them from burning in strong afternoon sunlight, sit your orchid within an eastern facing window. You should give your orchid about twelve hours of sunshine a day, but this really is sometimes not possible due to a very strong afternoon sun.

In order to figure out how much shade and sun your specific orchid species will need, you will have to discover as much information about your unique orchid as possible. There are many ways to find the right information in your orchid plant. A terrific way to get information on your particular orchid is to talk to the people from whom you purchase your plant from. It’s also wise to lookup information about your orchid online while you are doing your research on which types of orchid might be best for you personally before you purchase it. Some orchids thrive on receiving lots of sun.

While other species of orchid plants will wilt when they don’t get mostly shade. Among orchid growers there are 2 different method to distinguish which orchids like what type of light. Soft growing orchids mean they thrive in shady conditions. Hard growing orchids thrive in sunny conditions. Typically an orchid that requires soft or shady growing conditions offer their owners the enjoyment of the healthy and thriving plant, however the blooms will be small infrequent. On the other hand, orchids that are grown in uncertain or sunny conditions will produce many blooms, but not much plant. The leaves on this type of plant can also be yellow and stunted.

Just one way of ensuring that your orchid will get the best quantity of light is to use a glow-light. You can buy a grow-light and a timer can give your orchids the right amounts of both light and darkness. It’s also possible to make use of florescent light to offer your orchids a light source that isn’t too strong for them. For a long time it had been thought that orchids could only be successfully grown by experienced horticulturists.

But, with these simple ways of giving your orchids the right kind of light necessary, orchids can now be grown by even the most inexperienced growers. Along with natural sunlight, a grow-light or florescent lights plus, a full understanding of the kind of species your orchid is, you can have a gorgeous orchid plant that will give you gorgeous, full blooms throughout it’s blooming season.

Solar water heating systems for homes are used to produce hot water for showers, washers, sinks, and dishwashers. Technical advances in the last two decades have made solar collectors much more efficient and less costly, than the systems installed in the 70s. Considering the increased cost of fuel and adding the available federal tax credits, makes a solar hot water system very feasible for many. Keep in mind though that your system must provide at least 50% of your hot water requirement in order to qualify for the tax credits.

Two types of solar domestic hot water heating systems are used in residential applications: the closed loop system and the open loop system. A closed loop system separates the collector loop from the domestic water side with a heat exchanger: the domestic water system is closed to the solar collectors. A freeze-proof liquid, usually a glycol solution, is circulated through the solar collectors and the heat exchanger, which is located in the solar storage tank. These systems are also recommended for areas with hard water. Closed loop systems unfortunately cost more than an open system. People living in areas where temperatures always remain above freezing can install open loop systems. The domestic water loop is open to the solar collectors and the incoming cold water is circulated directly through the solar collectors and then to the solar storage tank.

Size and number of collectors depend on the type of collector you decide to install, for a given hot water requirement. Flat plate collectors and evacuated tube collectors are the two most frequently used types. Evacuated tube collectors have a higher efficiency than the flat plates, especially in colder or foggy weather and climates. It is generally just fine to use flat plate collectors in sunny and warm climates, as long as your water is soft. The more expensive, but also more efficient, evacuated tube collectors are a better option in colder, cloudy or foggy areas.

It is important to know that a solar water heating system needs to have a regular water heater as a backup to make sure that you have enough hot water during, and after, a number of days of overcast conditions. I like to look at a residential solar water heating system as a system that PRE-heats the incoming cold water on most days and on some days it heats all your hot water up to the required 130degF. The water heated in the solar collectors is stored in the solar storage tank from where it flows into your regular water heater to be fully heated as needed. With a well designed system, enough hot water will be produced in the solar collectors on clear days so that you don’t need the regular water heater.

The most important decision made for a solar water heating system installation is the location of the solar collectors. Even the best flat plate or evacuated tube collectors will perform below expectations if they are mounted in an area that is shaded half of the time. Tools are available to measure or calculate the solar radiation in your location. Some calculation programs, available online, are free. All will require you to do some of the work yourself, such as collecting some data and entering it into tables or forms. You can also buy an instrument to measure the solar radiation at your location. Or you can call your friendly local solar system installer. They might give you a free analysis.

Now on to the roof itself. Will it need strengthening? How exactly will the collector support system be attached to the roof? What about the pipe penetrations? What will be required to make sure that the roof is still fully waterproof after the solar system has been installed. Talk to a trusted contractor.

Ok, let’s look what is needed in the house. Here you will need space for the solar storage tank, pump and maybe a small expansion tank, if you end up with a closed loop system. How much space? For initial planning purposes, allow at least 2 1/2 times as much space as your existing water heater has. This needs to be adjacent to the water heater. Allow enough space for easy access for maintenance.

All right, the collectors are on the roof, the solar storage tank is in the basement. How will you run the pipes between the two? You will need to run two 3″ pipes. That is based on 1″ pipes with 1″ insulation. Scout out which walls you can use to run the pipes up through, all the way from the basement, or first floor, to the roof. If possible, avoid having to build pipe enclosures. That gets costly and might not look very nice. Corners in built-in closets are great places to to hide pipes.

That’s it. You have done a lot of the important up-front work. Hopefully you now know enough to be dangerous, can make educated decisions and ask the right questions about how to plan, design, purchase and install, or have installed, a solar water heating system for your home.

Don’t make the mistakes others have made in the past when they were designing and installing a solar hot water system. Get educated and learn how to plan and prepare for a successful system.
